EPLE: Enhancing Practice-Led E-learning (Art, Design and Media)

http://pathfinder.cumbria.ac.uk/pathfinder.html

The EPLE Pathfinder project was conducted by the Evolve team at University of Cumbria as part of the phase one Pathfinder programme funded by the Higher Education Academy. The twelve-month project completed in May 2008. The project sought to investigate the introduction of the University's virtual learning environment, Blackboard, onto art, design and media courses in the Faculty of the Arts.

Consideration of the practice-led aspects of ADM courses was taken into account, and the experiences of pilot studies captured some of the implications of using the VLE for life drawing, photography and journalism modules. Themes include factors relating to mode, medium and sociocultural significances, as well as the associated training and pedagogical needs for staff.

In addition to the many findings that have been of immediate benefit to some staff within the Faulty of the Arts, a highly evolved model for academic engagement emerged, and parallels were drawn with the e-learning course design processes identified in University of Leicester's pilot Pathfinder project, ADELIE.

ADELIE: Advanced Design for E-learning Institutional Embedding

http://www.le.ac.uk/adelie

ADELIE was a 12-month Pilot Pathfinder project funded by the Higher Education Academy to October 2007. ADELIE's aims were to:
• Embed good practice in re-design for e-learning
• Build capacity within the University of Leicester
• Enhance the learner experience
• Make tutors' jobs more effective and rewarding
• Stimulate institutional change

ADDER: Assessment and Disciplines: Developing E-tivities Research

http://www.le.ac.uk/beyonddistance/adder

ADDER is an E-learning Reseacrh Observatory project also funded by the HEA. (Oct 07 - Oct 08) It builds on the work undertaken by the ADELIE project, by investigating assessment practices based on e-tivities and the impact on the learner experience in four disciplines at five universities. The project aims to:
• Highlight, compare and contrast technology-enhanced assessment practices across disciplines
• Investigate similarities and differences in assessment practices that make use of e-tivities
• Investigate the impact of assessment practices on the learner experience

CHEETAH: Change by Embedding E-learning in Teaching Across HEIs

http://www.le.ac.uk/cheetah

CHEETAH is an 8-month Pathfinder extension project to October 2008, also funded by the HEA. CHEETAH's primary aim is to transfer, in a usable format, the key outcomes of the ADELIE project to six partner institutions in order to enable them to develop a fresh but sustainable approach to capacity building in e-earning design, by:
• Planning, delivering and evaluating six interventions, one at each partner institution
• Evaluating the impact of these interventions on e-learning design at partner institutions
• Providing a change cascade model and the transferring of skills to enable the CHEETAH partners to repeat and sustain these interventions
Generating opportunities for dissemination of findings and further collaboration within the CHEETAH partners and across the sector.
